The Rhinoplasty Procedure
Rhinoplasty is performed as an outpatient procedure under general anesthesia. Once you are fully comfortable, Dr. Balikian will begin your customized surgical plan.
Depending on your anatomy and desired outcome, he may use one of two approaches:
- Open rhinoplasty (external approach) – This technique involves a small incision along the columella, the tissue between the nostrils, allowing the nasal skin to be lifted for full visibility of the internal structures. Open rhinoplasty is ideal for complex corrections or detailed reshaping. After adjustments are made, the skin is re-draped and sutured with precision to minimize scarring and promote natural healing.
- Closed rhinoplasty (endonasal approach) – Performed entirely through internal incisions, closed rhinoplasty offers a scarless solution and often a faster recovery. This approach is well suited for patients requiring moderate refinement. After Surgery

Am I a Good Candidate for Rhinoplasty?

In general, ideal candidates are in good physical health, have realistic expectations, and are non-smokers, or willing to stop smoking as directed before, during, and after surgery to support healing.
It’s also important that your nose has finished developing. Nasal growth typically completes around age 14 for girls and age 16 for boys. Performing surgery before this point can interfere with the natural maturation process.
